Where To Go?

Great Miami Recreational Trail
Follow the path of the Great Miami River and Miami and Erie Canal as it meanders through the towns of Tipp City, Troy and Piqua in beautiful Miami County. The trail links parks, historic sites, and the river corridor with communities and provides an excellent venue for exercise, family fun and enjoyment. Convenient parking and entry points at many locations.

Buckeye Trail, Troy Section
On canal towpaths, along railroad tracks, under two Interstate Highways and near a monument commemorating the Wright Brothers’ First Flight, the Troy Section of the Buckeye Trail offers hikers a glimpse into the evolution of transportation in Ohio.

North Country Trail, Miami County Section
The North Country Trail is America’s longest National Scenic Trail stretching 4,600 miles from New York to North Dakota, linking 7 states, 10 National Forest, and more than 150 public lands.
The NCT provides year-round recreation opportunities as it traverses America’s north country.  In Ohio and Miami County, it becomes part of the Buckeye Trail.

Linear Park, Piqua
The Linear Park is more than 11 miles of paved pathway through the city. It consists of a trail that runs east and west along an abandoned railroad bed.

Brukner Nature Center, Troy
Six miles of hiking trails are available to you for running, walking, hiking or casual meandering in a beautiful rural setting.

Hobart Arena, Troy
Walking outside in the extreme heat or bitter cold might not be for you, but you’re in luck because Hobart Arena allows the casual walker an inside track to get your daily exercise. Check the link for available dates and times.
WALKING SCHEDULE

Miami Valley Centre Mall, Piqua
The mall is located adjacent to the bike path and makes for easy access for riders and walkers to cool off inside the air-conditioned building. Also available is a food court for refreshments. Restrooms, which are open to the public, are available off of the food court. A bike rack is location at the Food Court Entrance, visible from the bike path.

The Dayton Hikers group is the largest and most active hiking club in the Miami Valley. We offer guided hikes to parks all over the region including hikes in parks maintained by the Miami County Park District. We are a web-based club with no dues, meetings, officers or newsletters. We are primarily a hiking group but we also have bicycling, kayaking and camping events too. Becoming a member is fast, free and easy.
