Home Grown Parks – Stillwater Prairie Reserve

May 3, 2018

Along the Scenic Stillwater River lies the Stillwater Prairie Reserve, a local park part of the Miami County Park District. Located at 9750 St. Rt. 185 in Covington, OH this park has 260 acres with 3 miles of hiking trails for visitors to adventure on.

Stillwater provides the perfect place to picnic during the summer with its shelter that includes electricity and a grill. Along with access to the Stillwater scenic river, this park has three man-made ponds for fishing opportunities. Stillwater also houses many native Ohio prairie plants along the trails.

One event you might be familiar with happens at Stillwater Prairie is the Hug The Earth Festival, which features the amazing Banana Slug String Band! This family-friendly event happens each year and is a great way to celebrate the natural features our Earth provides.

Along with environmental education, this festival provides opportunities for outdoor adventure the whole family will enjoy. From tree climbing and canoeing to geocaching, face painting, and a high ropes course, this festival is one you won’t want to miss on Saturday, May, 12th from 12pm to 5pm.

Looking to satisfy your need for adventure? Stillwater Prairie Reserve also hosts the Stillwater Prairie Reserve Adventure Challenge each summer. This event is a series of adventure challenges, from archery and canoeing to identifying different plants and animals. Grab a friend and take on the adventure challenge on Saturday, June 23rd  2018 from 9am to 11:30am.

Next time you are near the Covington area, be sure to stop and take a hike on the trails at Stillwater Prairie Reserve to experience one of the beautiful parks in Miami County. It’s not just good, its Home Grown Great!
